What are flower essences?
Flower essences, also referred to as flower remedies, are a vibrational plant medicine. Flower essences are dilute, potentized herbal infusions or decoctions, prepared from wildflowers or pristine garden blossoms. They are made directly in the “laboratory of nature,” where the four alchemical elements of earth, water, air and fire are found in harmonious balance. To this is added the fifth “quintessential” element of the sensitive awareness and attunement of the preparer. The fresh, dew-filled blossoms are gathered in the early morning of a clear, sunny day. Floating on the surface of a bowl of water, they are irradiated by the warmth and light of the sun for several hours. This process creates an energetic imprint of the etheric energy pattern of the flower in the water, embodying the healing archetype of that plant. This “mother essence” is preserved with brandy and then further diluted and potentized to form the “stock” essence. Custom dosage bottles created for you are made up of 2 drops of each of the stock flower essences selected for you, spring water, and Cognac (as a preservative). There is no actual plant matter in the flower essence.
What are flower essences used for?
Flower essences can support us on an energetic, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. Flower essences are extremely versatile and can assist with a wide range of issues such stress, exhaustion, fear, anxiety, self-esteem, lack of joy, holding on to the past, grief & sadness, spiritual disconnection, relationship challenges, career challenges, times of transition, boundary setting, feeling stuck or overwhelmed, managing change, struggling with impatience or lack of compassion, lacking focus or clarity, discernment, depleted vitality or creativity, support with end of life as the individual or as the care taker, worry, indecision, sleep issues, overly active mind, strengthening our connection to our psychic abilities, higher selves and spirit guides, and so on. The possibilities are nearly endless! Flower essences assist us in finding greater peace, equilibrium, happiness, healing, and regaining harmony between soul and mind.
Flower essences can support those who suffer from physical illness by addressing the emotional responses to the illness, and by working with the underlying conflicts and tensions that may have contributed to the onset of the illness. However, flower essences are not cures for any specific illness, and are chosen on the basis of mental, emotional and spiritual issues, rather than specific physical ailments.**
What happens during a flower essence consultation?
Included in your consultation session:
~One-hour history & aspirations review
~One 30 mL bottle of your custom flower essence blend (about 3-4 week supply)
~A list of personalized mantras aligned with your flowers and healing objectives
~A photo of the flowers included in your custom blend
During an initial Flower Essence Consultation session, we will spend an hour reviewing things like your history, lifestyle, career, relationships with family and others close to you, challenges you are currently facing emotionally, mentally, and/or spiritually, and your overall goals for working with flower essences. Through this deep dive, we will identify the key areas where you are looking to see a positive shift. The goal is not to attempt to address what comes up, but rather to identify the flowers that are most aligned with your healing objectives. These appointments can be done in-person or virtually. After the session is over, Kendra will work on creating your custom flower essence formula blend, which is typically up to 8 different flower essences, and mantras that align with your selected flower essences and your healing objectives. Your flower essence formula and mantras will be mailed to you directly once created, typically within 5 days or less.
How do I take my flower essence dosages?
There are many ways to work with flower essence formulas:
Orally- 4 drops on the tongue, 4 times a day
In water- place 4 drops in your drinking water, stir clockwise for a minute, then counterclockwise for a minute, drink throughout the day, 4 times a day
Topically- can be combined in a lotion or placed directly on the skin, can be used in bath water
Spray- can be misted around the body or in a room
More at once is not better, the key is consistency! It's better to take your essence dosage 4 times throughout the day rather than loading up all at once.
What If I miss a dose, or several?
Life gets busy and we're not perfect! It's bound to happen. If you miss a dose, or several, just pick up where you left off. Don't try to 'make up for lost time' or double up.
How do I know the essences are working and how long will they take to work?
Unlike chemical drugs which suppress symptoms, flower essences are catalysts for emotional change, and work by stimulating awareness. Many people report general but discernible differences with essences. They may feel clearer, calmer, or better able to cope. However, in order to note really specific changes with flower essences you will need some way of objectively observing your emotional and mental states. You may wish to keep a journal, discuss your issues regularly with a friend or counselor, or take note of your dreams and other inner events. Often it is the comments of others close to us which first alerts us to changes taking place.
A 30 ml dosage bottle is generally used at the rate of four drops, four times daily, and lasts about one month. This is a typical cycle for emotional change, and it is recommended that you use an essence for at least this period of time to fully experience its impact. The remedies often have a subtle beginning, which gradually becomes more obvious. However, a month is only a general suggestion; many people use flower essences for longer or shorter periods of time than this, with good results. An essence or combination should be discontinued when you feel you have completely absorbed or consciously recognized the benefits which were intended from it. We recommend continuing to use a formula, or at least one or two key essences from the mix, for a period of time even after some change has been noticed. This allows a possibility for the essences to be “anchored” at deeper levels of consciousness.
Can you Make me A dosage bottle without using alcohol?
Alcohol is the typical ingredient used to create a dosage bottle of flower essence formula. If you are sensitive to alcohol, or prefer not to consume it, a dosage bottle can be made using vegetable glycerin as the preservative instead. Keep in mind, the flower essence drops (between 2-16 drops per 30 mL bottle) will contain a small amount of alcohol so it cannot be completely avoided but greatly reduced.
how should i store my flower essences?
We recommend keeping your flower essence dosage bottle at room temperature and out of direct sunlight. You do not need to be concerned about storing your flower essence formulas too close to electronics or avoid sending them through an x-ray machine when traveling. Your essences will hold up just fine!
How often should I have a follow up session?
We typically recommend a follow up appointment 3-4 weeks after your previous session. Follow-up appointments are typically 30-45 minutes and can be done in person or virtually. During the follow up session we will review any new developments that may have come up since the last session, any healing outcomes you have experienced, and determine what changes to make to your personalized flower essence blend for the next month.
Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes, initial flower essence consultations and follow-up appointments can be done in-person at our office in Bristol, or virtually, depending on the client's preference.
are flower essences safe for everyone?
Flower essences are generally considered safe and gentle with no known physical contraindications because they don’t contain any pharmacologically active substances. You cannot overdose on them and there is no concern for allergies to the flowers themselves since there is no actual plant matter in the flower essences. They are also safe during pregnancy and for babies, children, and pets. For clients sensitive to alcohol, your formula can be created with vegetable glycerin instead. Please reach out if you have any specific questions or concerns.
What is the difference between flower essences, essential oils, and tinctures?
Here is a simplified comparison:
Flower essences are vibrational remedies used to support energetic, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being; contains no measurable plant chemicals; safe to ingest, cannot overdose, environmentally sustainable process using very little plant material. They do not have a scent and do not taste like the flower of the essence.
Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts from plants; made through steam distillation or cold pressing; act on a physical body and nervous system level; some can be toxic if ingested; uses a large volume of plant matter to produce final product. They are highly aromatic.
Tinctures are herbal extracts made by soaking plant material in alcohol; contain biochemically active compounds; targets physical symptoms or physiological systems.
